5 tips to increase escape room voucher sales during Christmas

Christmas is the perfect time for your escape room to boost your gift card sales. It’s a great bonus to add to your revenue at the end of the year and you are securing a bunch of bookings for the future.

Discounts and Deals

Offer a good deal on your gift vouchers. I know your first reaction might be that you don’t want to devalue your product but we all know that not all escape room vouchers get redeemed so let’s do a little math.

  • On average you sell vouchers for $100*

  • 30% of these vouchers never gets redeemed**

  • You offer a 10% discount

  • You see a 20% increase in sales

So if you normally sell 50x vouchers during the Holiday Season that’s $5,000 out of which $1,500 never gets used.

With the 20% increase in sales and the 10% discount you make $5,400 leaving you with $400 extra even though you offered a discount.

Discounts and Sales Correlation

💡 The bigger deal you give people the more it is going to boost your sales. However the bigger the discount the shorter the availability period should be.

It might seem counterintuitive to offer deals when people are spending so much money on Christmas gifts already but keep in mind that they have a increadble amount of options to choose from and if a small discount can win them over it’s all worth it. It’s simple math.

*Based on team of two and team of four vouchers being the most popular options.

**Conservative number, in my experience this number is usually clsoer to 50%

On site sales

Your customers just left their room on a high from the awesome escape game experience and ideally they would want more. This is the perfect time to sell some gift cards however it’s a pretty big purchase so you might want to add some tricks to your toolbelt to up your chances to sell:

  • Incentivise your staff if they sell gift cards. This can be anything from a competition for the best sales person with a cash prize to a team incentive of pizza day for 2 weeks.

  • Have your gift cards on display somewhere in the waiting area. Show off you awesome christmas gift cards so they can hold it in their hands and see wht they’ll be gifting to their loved ones.

  • Decorate your waiting area with Christmas decoration and play some music so both your staff and your customers feel the Holiday spirits.

Newsletters

Send newsletters about your Christmas vouchers AND MANY OF THEM! I’ve seen too many escape room businesses who send zero to none newsletters apart from the occasional one when they open a new room.

Your inbox is full of companies trying to sell you something during these times for a good reason. Email marketing works and you should use it to the fullest otherwise why are you even collecting people’s emails?!

💡Don’t be worried about unsubscribes. If people unsubscribe after a couple of email do you really want them on your list anyway?

The closer we get to Christmas the better your chances are to sell a gift voucher. Why? Because gift cards make a perfect last minute gift due to their instant e-delivery nature.

Christmas Design

Create a season specific design for your gift cards, in this case make one for Christmas. Simply edit one of these Canva templates if you don’t have a graphic designer or Photoshop is not your cup of tea.

💡Show off your awesome design in your newsleters and give them ideas with an envelope for example for scale

Even though gift vouchers are usually electronically delivered it is still a nice option for your customers to be able to print it and give something physical to the receipent. But even if they just send it in an email the Festive design will be still appreaciated.

Website Modifications

And last but not least, let’s not foget about your website. The closer we get to Christmas the more front and centre your gift cards should be on your website. Don’t leave it to chance that customers will discover them by themselves:

  • Add you gift cards to the front page and move it up to the top spot in the last week leading up to Christmas

  • Change the photos of your gift cards to Christmas themed ones

  • Add your gift card promotion to all of the room’s subpages

The more visible you make them the more likely it is that people will snap up a gift card to surprise a loved one so you can hit your goal and increase your gift card sales this coming Christmas season.
