How to Incentivise Employees to Boost your On-Site Sales During Christmas
The festive season is approaching fast and we all know that it’s one of the busiest season’s for all escape rooms. A lot of the yearly revenue comes from the October to December period, especially if you’ve succesfully tapped into the corporate market.
So the question is, how can you make even more during this period? Well the obvious answer is a well planned Christmas campaign, but the less obvious answer is boosting your on-site sales. So how do you do that?
Exclusive on-site only deal
First let’s talk about exclusive on-site only deals as they are crucial to help your staff to sell. This will help both your re-bookings and your gift card sales. Especially the latter during the festive season. This will also massively help your employees to sell more gift cards since if you’re trying to sell the same thing as you are online there is no real incentive for the customers to buy right there and then.
Why do you even want to sell right there and then? Well, it’s simple: there are plenty of other gift ideas out there and you might get forgotten in the see of ideas.
What kind of exclusive deals can you offer?
A nicely printed and wrapped gift card
A gift card with a customisable puzzle
Buy one get one free/half price deal
Or just a straight up percentege off type of deal
All of these options will help your team to upsell the gift cards before the customers leave your location.
How can you help you team to sell?
Workshop a pre-written sales pitch with them so they’ll always know what to say
Put up a poster in the lobby so they can point at something
Leave flyers on the tables so customers see this promotion while they wait
Add this to your reminder email so they see this before they even arrive
It’s important to remember that your GM’s aren’t sales people. Some might have the gene but most of them are just there to run the escape games. So it is your job to help them sell whatever you are trying to sell.
Incentivise your employees to sell
There are different ways to incentivise your team and a pat on the back is not an incentive but a nice to have. A financial incentive will boost their energy to make a real effort to sell on-site.
How to incentivise?
There are plenty of different ways to incentive your team but there are a few proven methods you can go with:
Commission based: Offer a percentage (anywhere between 5-20%) or a flat fee (anywhere between $2-5 per gift card) from the sale. You can simply ask your staff to track their sales on paper and you can cross check with on site payments if you want to double check.
💡 You can even introduce a scaling commission: The more they sell the higher the commission percentage gets.Organise a competition: Give them a high ticket item ($100-200) they can win if they are the team member with the most sales. You can even have this each week during December.
💡 Introduce a team goal so the GM’s lagging behind remain motivated to participate in the competition.Offer them perspective: You can put a carrot on the stick that whoever sells the most gets a chance to try themselves in a brand new sales role. It’s a pretty safe way to try a dedicated person selling team buildings and large groups in the long run.
You can introduce these incentives periodically during the year with seasonal campaigns like Easter and Halloween. Or you can just run it throughout the year. Why limit your team if they go above and beyond to sell?
